My book is called Don’t Call Me Crazy! I’m Just in Love. Fifty seven million Americans will suffer from a mental illness in a given year. My message is to inform the community that normal people get mental illnesses too and you can live out your dreams regardless of the disability. My book is inspired by a true story. My goal is to save lives.

On Saturday December 10, 2011 from 12 noon to 1pm, author Swiyyah Nadirah Muhammad will present a free lecture and reading from her published book, Don’t Call Me Crazy! I’m Just in Love, to the community at the Johnson branch library 1059 18th. Ave. S. St. Petersburg, FL 33705. Swiyyah said, “I wrote my book to end the stigma on mental illness and to help the community grow mentally, spiritually, and financially. It took me two years to get my books into the public library system. I’m reaching all my goals and i want to help the community reach all of thier goals.” Swiyyah said, “57 million Americans will suffer from a mental disorder this year and only 13% of them will seek treatment. Thirty thousand lives are lost each year because people are afraid to seek help. They’re afraid to be labeled as crazy.” Swiyyah Nadirah Muhammad received her BA degree in Psychology and has been diagnosed with the ost debilitating mental disorder known in mental health, paranoid schizophrenia.
And for a long time refused to take medication. “I always saw myself as normal and i thought that normal people don’t get mental illnesses,” Swiyyah Said. Swiyyah wants to reach out to the community. For more information visit www.swiyyah.com.

About the author:
Swiyyah Nadirah Muhammad received her BA degree in Psychology from the University of South FL. She has worked for many non profit agencies in Pinellas county and disliked the way the clients were treated. This motivated her to write her new novel, “Don’t Call Me Crazy! I’m Just in Love” which is inspired by a true story. Swiyyah received her certification in TV production and has been providing TV shows for the community in the Bay Area.

Someone asked me how do I stay so calm? I would say that I don’t miss a day of my medication. That’s how I do it. And I’ve learned tricks to keep me from an argument which keeps me from stress. When someone says something mean don’t say anything. People hate silence and this will force them to say what’s really on their minds. One man that I meet didn’t even know me and he said “you need therapy.” I didn’t immediately argue back with him, I let him keep talking and what I found out is that he needed cognitive therapy because he kept calling his self stupid. When people make a judgment call about you and they don’t even know you, nine out of 10 times their talking about themselves or someone close to them. I had the opportunity to see Dr. Paula White. She is a TV personality and author and motivational speaker and preacher. She told the story of being molested and abused when she was young and her farther committed suicide. She has the same story as me. I asked her if I can do a lecture at her church. My brother molested me when I was young, and step farther abused me physically. My brother later committed suicide because he couldn’t forgive his self and he refused to take his medication. This taught me about forgiveness. Everyone knows now that you’re suppose to forgive others but no one knows you’re suppose to forgive yourself. Go to God when you pass. Go to the light. I don’t care what sin you committed. Stop the wrong you’re doing, ask God for forgiveness, and then forgive yourself. God forgives all sins. My book, Don’t Call Me Crazy! When I was younger I didn’t know that love was suppose to last forever. I was watching love and basketball and it reminded me of my first love. We were in love and he was good to me. We never would argue. Then he went off to college and my sister told me that he would cheat so I believed her and I started treating him like a cheater. I would break up with him because I thought he cheated. I did this several times. I still have dreams about him. Something deep in my soul wants him back. I think that maybe this time since I’m stable the relationship will work. When you find someone that loves you, treat them right. Don’t cheat, don’t accuse them of cheating, don’t check their phones and their emails. Have trust. True love is suppose to last forever and when I was young I didn’t know this. I’ve learned from my mom that when people react to life experiences in a positive way they become geniuses like Oprah and Tyler Perry. When people react to life experiences in a negative way you get your rapist and murderers. Your life is 99% of how you react to what happens to you and 1% of what happens to you. Pay attention to who you surround yourself with. What I noticed is when you want drama in your life you will surround yourself around negative people. Pay attention to who your friends are, what family members you hang around, and who you choose to communicate with at work. I noticed a lot of people who have a mental disorder are very negative. I know myself I used to watch negative programs on TV all day then when I went to work I talked about how much I hate the job. Surround yourself with positive people. I noticed when I moved in with my x fiancé he was very positive and he was able to pick out the negative things I did, it was a life changing experience for me to hear that I’m negative. A positive person can change you without saying a word. I remember when I used to go to work and everything that came out of my mouth was negative. I would talk to a preacher that was positive. And the only thing he would do is acknowledge that he heard me. He wouldn’t engage in negativity and that taught me a lesson. Don’t bring negative drama about your home life to work and don’t bring your negative drama on the job home with you. Leave it a the job. Don’t talk about how much you hate your job. Try to be the best employee that you can be even though you can’t stand your job.
